What is the current standard?
There are many different deck sizes, which are measured in inches. The width of the decks is considered, which also defines the “name” of the size. An 8.125 is therefore 8.125” wide.
Until now, it was common to consider the smaller decks with a width of less than 7.75” as children’s sizes. In reality, however, a narrow deck does not help children.
The most important things for child-friendly skateboards
A decisive factor for how well a skateboard deck fits the body size is the “wheelbase”. This describes the distance between the two axles. When riding a skateboard and landing tricks and jumps, you have maximum stability when your feet are exactly above the wheels. However, the wheelbase does not decrease as the deck width decreases. This leads to a disproportion that causes problems, especially for smaller skaters. To stand or land on the trucks, a small person has to place their feet much further apart.
This is where the customisation of Inpeddo skateboards comes into play!
What exactly has been customised?
The wheelbase of the short & wide decks has been carefully customised for each individual deck width. This makes it possible to offer an almost perfect riding experience for the corresponding body size, which is otherwise only available to adults due to the selection of sizes and shapes above 7.75” decks. There is also another adjustment that will also have a strong positive effect on the progress of young skaters!
The angle at which the nose and tail of the skateboard deck are bent affects the behaviour of the skateboard when it “pops”. A pop is when the nose or tail is pressed down onto the ground, catapulting the skateboard into the air and initiating every trick. Unfortunately, this angle is heavily distorted in the skateboard sizes available to children. As already described, the wheelbase of smaller decks is not really adapted to the width of the decks for children. Instead, the length of the skateboard is compensated for by shortening the nose and tail. This creates a different pop angle. As there is no extra truck height especially for small decks, and the pop angle is already very steep when the nose and tail are shortened, it is almost impossible to do a high ollie with the usual small decks. This is why the pop angle of the short & wide decks has also been corrected.

Was ist der aktuelle Standard?
Es gibt viele verschiedene Deck-Größen, die in Inch gemessen werden. Dabei wird die Breite der Decks betrachtet, was auch gleichzeitig den “Name” der Größe definiert. Ein 8.125er ist also 8.125” breit.
Bisher war es üblich, die kleineren Decks mit einer breite von unter 7.75” als Kindergrößen zu betrachten. In Wirklichkeit hilft ein schmales Deck den Kindern jedoch nicht weiter.
Das wichtigste für Kindergerechte Skateboards
Ein Entscheidender Faktor dafür, wie gut ein Skateboard-Deck zu der Körpergröße passt ist die “Wheelbase”. Diese beschreibt den Abstand zwischen den beiden Achsen. Beim Skateboard fahren und beim landen von Tricks und Sprüngen hat man die maximale Stabilität, wenn sich die Füße genau über den Achsen befinden. Mit einer abnehmenden Deck-Breite nimmt allerdings nicht die Wheelbase ab. Das führt zu einer Unverhältnismäßigkeit, die vor Allem den kleinen Skater*innen Probleme bereitet. Um auf den Achsen zu stehen oder landen muss eine kleine Person ihre Füße viel weiter auseinander platzieren.

Was genau wurde angepasst?
Die Wheelbase der Short & Wide Decks wurde mit viel Bedacht auf jede einzelne Deck-Breite abgestimmt. So kann nahezu perfekt für die entsprechende Körpergröße ein Fahrgefühl geboten werden, welches sonst nur Erwachsenen durch die Auswahl an Größen und Shapes oberhalb von 7.75” Decks zur Verfügung steht.
Außerdem gibt es noch eine weitere Anpassung, die ebenfalls einen starken positiven Effekt für den Fortschritt der jungen Skater*innen haben wird!
Der Winkel in dem die Nose und das tail des Skateboard-Decks gebogen sind, wirkt sich auf das verhalten des Skateboards beim “Pop” aus. Als Pop bezeichnet man das herunterdrücken von Nose oder Tail auf den Boden, wodurch das Skateboard in die Luft katapultiert, also auch jeder Trick eingeleitet wird. Dieser Winkel ist leider stark verzerrt bei den Skateboard-Größen, welche den Kindern zur Auswahl stehen. Wie bereits beschrieben, ist die Wheelbase von kleineren Decks nicht wirklich abgestimmt auf die Breite der Decks für Kinder. Stattdessen wird mit dem Kürzen von Nose und Tail die Länge des Skateboards kompensiert. Dadurch entsteht ein anderer Pop-Winkel. Da es keine extra Achsen-Höhe speziell für kleine Decks gibt, und der Pop-Winkel ohne hin schon sehr steil wird durch das Kürzen von Nose und Tail, ist es mit den gängigen kleinen Decks nahezu unmöglich einen hohen Ollie zu machen. Deshalb wurde bei den Short & Wide Decks auch der Pop-Winkel korrigiert.
